“Don’t judge me by the things I post online; I can post whatever I want; it is not a reflection of who I am in real life.” That’s me paraphrasing something that someone posted on Facebook. Here’ a reality check for you. People will judge you based on what you post. I don’t care if you think its right or wrong; I don’t care if the things you post are not an accurate reflection of who you are. I can guarantee you that people will look at what you post as a true reflection of you.

So, what do you do, well you be careful with the things you post off course. I mean, I don’t think I should have to say this. But sometimes we post the craziest things and wonder why people react to us in a particular way.

About a year ago, I was having this discussion with someone online about the things they post. I said to them that employers and prospective employers are looking at the things they post and can make a decision on whether to hire or fire them from that. That person said I was a crazy man even to entertain this idea. But the trust it, it’s not me entertaining the idea, this is happening. I don’t understand why people get hooked on the way they want things to be without reacting to how things are.

If you think that people shouldn’t judge you based on the things you post, that’s ok. But understand this, they will do it, it is happening, and there is nothing you can do about it. So why not audit the things you post, you don’t have to listen to me or agree with me. Frankly, I don’t care, but know that maybe the reason you are not receiving any response from that job application you sent out is that post you made yesterday.
