Caribbean Entrepreneurs Facebook Facebook Advertising Social Media

Every Caribbean Business Needs to Start This Now if They Want to Grow in 2017

As a digital media enthusiast, there are two people I look to. One is Gary Vaynerchuk, the ultimate hustler, and the other is Douglas Rushkoff, a media theorist whom I had the pleasure of meeting on his visit to Ryerson University. Both men are accomplished authors. Gary’s books include, “Jab Jab Jab Right Hook”, “Crush It”, “#AskGaryVee”, and “Thank You Economy”, and Rushkoff authored “Programme or be Programmed” and “Throwing Rocks at the Google Bus”. I see Gary as the practical industry practitioner and Rushkoff as the academic. However, both men agree with me on one thing, and that is, we live in an attention economy. The ultimate asset in business today is attention. Businesses are all vying for our attention and he who knows where to find the attention will win. I believe Caribbean businesses can find attention everywhere, but the variable of success could be much more valuable if underpriced or cheap attention is found.

Many Caribbean businesses invest a large part of their budget in radio and television advertising which often times does not pay the dividends that entrepreneurs envision. Admittedly, it would be irresponsible to declare that mass media advertising doesn’t work; however, much better ways to spend your advertising dollars exist. Let’s take Grenada for instance. As a business, you could advertise your products or services on Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN) or Maitland Television (MTV) at premium cost. With such an investment especially for prime time programming, I am sure you would be able to reach the people you intend to. However, I think there are more effective ways to spend your money, reach the same or possibly more people when compared to television but at much lower costs, and that is using Facebook advertising.

The cheapest form of advertising right now and entering 2017 is Facebook advertising, and it will be the case for a while until everyone jumps on board which would most likely drive the cost up. Therefore, now is the time to start putting some of your advertising dollars into Facebook ads. Facebook is the most powerful social media platform in the world, outside countries like China. With 1.6 billion monthly active users and the ability to get as targeted as you desire, how could you lose? With Facebook ads, you could probably reach most in your country that are interested in a particular product, between a certain age, and of a particular gender. Let’s say, for instance; you have a product for women between the ages of 25 and 40. When you advertise on TV, do you have any guarantee that only women in the aforementioned age range would see your product? No, you don’t, but with Facebook ads you could. Now analyze your personal television watching habits. When you watch TV and the program breaks for advertisements, do you sit and intently watch all the ads, grab your phone to tweet or post on Facebook about what you’re watching, or do you use the time to get a glass of water or go to the restroom? Based on your personal admission, you may see why television advertisements may not be as effective even though it is costly.

Additionally, if you are an advertising or marketing agency, adding Facebook advertising to your services will be a huge boost for your business. One of the excuses I always hear is that people do not understand Facebook ads, but I have a secret weapon for you to learn about Facebook advertising. It’s called Google. You can learn anything from Google and Facebook advertising is no exception. Unfortunately, some persons falsely claim that Facebook ads do not work when they have never tried them. However, I challenge you to give it a shot because I have been running ads for the last two years, and I have been getting positive results. Therefore, try it and tell me how it goes.

Creative Ryerson MDM Social Media Storytelling

Storytelling is the new Marketing, Branding, and other Good stuff in Business

I was sitting watching Mcguyver on demand when I received a video from an acquaintance from one of the online groups I am a part of. The video was about a guy with some religious message, and I decided not to even bother to watch it. However, while I was posting an image on Whatsapp a few minutes later, the video started playing, and the guy started telling a story about a civilian that saved a soldier’s life. The story highlighted that the civilian’s mom wanted to abort him a few years earlier, and the mother of the soldier whose life he ended up saving sat with her and encouraged her to keep the baby. The story got me hooked, and I watched the entire video, even the message after the story.

That got me thinking; it validated what I have been working on for the past few months; storytelling is how Brands can use their story to grow their businesses. Gary Vaynerchuck stated that he day trades attention and build businesses. To him, the ultimate asset in business , in this internet led era in which we live, is attention. Therefore it is of utmost importance to find ways to get and keep this asset. I believe that to get the attention, we need to tell stories.

In January 2016, a tourist (Jessica Colker)was murdered while exploring a deserted beach while on vacation in Grenada. Note well, Grenada is my home country. The incident generated lots of international media interest; most of it negative. The coverage painted a picture of a dangerous, barbaric island with savage people and where rapists and murderers roam freely.  Some literature even issued travel warnings and advisories.

As a Grenadian, Colker’s murder stunned me; particularly because Grenada is one of the safest and friendliest Caribbean islands with extremely low crime rates. I anticipated the coverage given the international ties of the victim, however, what I did not expect was the very negative image that was painted of Grenada and Grenadians like me. This sparked the creation of the #IamGrenadian counter-project to share the real stories of Grenada and Grenadians online.

Six months later, the Facebook page  garnered 11,000 likes and massive engagement; that’s when I realized that storytelling was a powerful way to shape a brand’s narrative online. As part of my Masters Degree in Digital Media, I am currently working on the best way that brands can tell their stories across multiple platforms. I will keep everyone updated on my progress. I am not going to talk about the benefits of storytelling or the steps to create a story; these can be found with a quick search on google or by visiting the business of story website. Nevertheless, storytelling is the future, and I will be writing about the different ways a story can be created and shared across multiple platforms. Stay tuned for progress updates on my research.

3 Signs You Have A Terrible Personal Brand On Social Media

A few months ago I started my Masters in Digital Media and I decided to blog about my experience and the way I view the world from the perspective of a Digital Media Masters student and a practitioner of Digital Media. One of the things ‘grind my gears’ is when I see entrepreneurs and personalities ignoring the most basics of Social Media Personal Branding. Honestly, I don’t think I am in the position or have the authority to judge per se since I too sometimes miss the mark .I am no expert, however, I think Social Media can have a positive impact on building a brand. Yet most people ignore it.

Personal branding expert, Karen Leland stated that there are three specific ways that almost everyone can benefit from social media

1- Enhance brand recognition and thought leadership– The more frequently you show up on social media, the greater your brand exposure and the more recognizable and credible your business become.

2- Increased trust through leveraged credibility– If consumers trust you they more they are willing to recommend you

3- Gives you a competitive advantage
– If someone is looking to choose between you and your competition for a service and you have an active brand on social media, you will most likely be the one that gets chosen.

Below are three basic branding principles that, if ignored, most likely than not results in the creation of a terrible brand. Yes, I said terrible.

1- No or poor photo and brand identity– For some strange reason, some businesses and entrepreneurs believe that they do not need a profile photo. It doesn’t matter which profile you are on; this is a must have. A profile with a profile image will get more click than one without. Besides, people will trust you more when they can see you. If your profile picture is not consistent across all social media platforms, people may not trust you. Ensure your photo is up to date, no a pic of a dragon is not appropriate, just a headshot of the real authentic you smiling and looking forward.

2- No or poorly written Bio– Ok, so your profile picture may attract someone to your profile, but it’s your bio that will get them excited about you. Use up all your characters, don’t be afraid. Different platforms have different character limits so craft a bio to suit the different platforms. Also, show people who you are, if you founded a company; say that, if you spent five years helping companies sell online; say just that, be specific, not general. Don’t lie though and don’t fake your achievements; real recognizes real, and people will sniff out your BS from a distance. Use keywords so people can find you easily.

3- No Background– Ok, this one bothers me, most platforms like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn allow you to upload a background. See my different backgrounds below; I am feeling myself, and I got them done on Fiverr for five dollars each. According to Leland, your background is a visual display of your bio and a personal branding best practice. Use your background to promote your brand, customize it to suit you, if you are an author, put your books on there, just ensure it tells the story of who you are.

Ok, I will stop here, for now, these are some of the very basics of what I recommend for building a brand on Social Media. You can get fancier if you want to, there are a lot of information online that can help you build your personal brand.

15 Secret Tips And Tricks To Supercharge Your Instagram Game

There is no other social media platform like Instagram which is geared towards interactivity. Attractive pictures get their first comment and like within few seconds of posting. However, unlike other social media tools, communicating on Instagram exclusively revolves on visual stimuli because of its format.

Generating More Followers And Likes

Comments and likes play a major role on Instagram as both of these interactions lead to getting more followers for your Instagram profile. But to make sure that there is frequent interaction followed by great coverage, your content as well as the entire user profile must be inviting as well as active.

One method to enhance your Instagram game is to buy Instagram likes. Of course, there is no harm in doing so. But what if there is a procedure where you can purchase Instagram likes and followers and use some engaging tactics side-by-side. Isn’t it great?

instagram-comments
So, let’s check out some of the tactics you can follow-

1) Posting Regularly and Daily

Sometimes the best content tactics won’t work if there is not enough material to publish. It is not necessary to post many pictures on Instagram in a single day. One snap is enough if the content is of high quality.

Instagram users like to see worthwhile content and just by checking out some of the popular and likable Instagram profiles, you can understand the importance of quality images.

2) Editing Posts

Sometimes you might have made a spelling mistake or forgot to add a hashtag. Well, don’t worry about it. Once content is uploaded on Instagram, you can easily make the necessary edits to the text. But you cannot modify the filters, so make sure to pick them wisely the first time; else you will end up re-uploading them.

3) Posting Content When Interested Users Are Online

As you are aware from other social media platforms like Facebook, ‘Social Timing’ is one of the critical and magic phrases that you need to know. But is this common knowledge so popular that people follow it? No! Just take a closer look at the content present on Instagram. Many people are still not utilizing or paying attention to it.

As a consequence, high-quality content gets published, but there isn’t a single person to view and comment or like them. And what is the use of posting when there are no interactive users to grab the useful information?

4) Never Missing Posts Of Your Favorite People

It is common to have a favorite Instagram profile that you follow. And these Instagram profiles consistently post interesting pictures, and you might not be aware of it.

Luckily, there is a method to filter your favorites and avoid missing the posts. Among the various snaps of babies, cats, and dogs, filtering the desired photos is easy. You need to go to the particular contact that you like, click on the three dots present in the top right. Then choose the option ‘Turn on Post Notifications’.

5) Provide a Specific Call-To-Action For The Post

Would you create a landing page which doesn’t have a good call-to-action? Obviously not! Then why is that there are various social media posts on Instagram which are not able to bring in active responses. You need to realize that most of the users might respond to your instructions and follow them, not everybody.

But it doesn’t mean that you should not include a call-to-action like ‘tag a buddy who likes this snap in the comment section’ or ‘double tap if you feel the photo is beautiful’ as you post photos on Instagram.

specific-call-to-action

Through their impact, you can know how successful these measures are. Just keep in mind that if the engagement rate increases, then you are on the right track. And you need to intensify and develop the given principles further.

6) Arranging Filters As Per Your Preference

There are filters that you like and make your pictures better compared to others. It can be a massive taxing procedure to sift through the entire list of the filters to choose the one that you want. But with Instagram you have the option to hide the filters that you don’t want.

So, you can rearrange your filters in such a manner that the first five are the ones that you commonly use or like next to the original picture.

7) Re-Posting Popular Content

One of the major aspects of your Instagram analysis is you have to check which content is popular in general. It is easy to find that information by checking out the number of comments and likes that individual post gets. Posting regularly will make sure that you get a solid base that you can use to compare your success rate.

Through your comparison, you can understand which type of content works best. And such kind of content is what you need to publish regularly and provide your targeted groups with.

8) Get The List Of Posts You Liked

Sometimes it is good to know which posts you have liked. This is good especially when you can get the lists of people who have liked or commented on your posts. Isn’t that something you would be keen to know?

9) Using Special Hashtags Related To Your Brand

Major businesses and brands are not the only ones who have the right to use hashtags. You can utilize this awesome tool in a similar manner. Even if you have just started posted on Instagram or are a novice, it is recommended to use hashtags.

By branding your content with hashtags, you are ensuring that your content is more associated to your business as well as the brand. Also, it helps you to monitor which content has been already posted and is effective. Plus it can help to find out if any of your interesting photos have been shared on Instagram through third-parties. No doubt, using hashtags brings a positive contribution to your business as well as your brand.

10) Clearing Search History

There can be situations when search history is useful. But other times, you might want to avoid getting reminded about the profiles stalked by you. To clear the history of your Instagram’s activity, you need to click on the ‘Settings’ option of your account and select the ‘Clear Search History’ button.

11) Converting Your Account To Private

Sometimes you won’t want the whole world to follow you and see what you are posting. And now is the best time to convert your account into private. So, it means that individuals must provide a request to follow you, and they will not be able to view what you post or check your account until you accept their invitation.

12) Finding Out Trending Hashtag That Attract Huge Attention

Like other platforms, on Instagram certain content belonging to a particular topic gets often repeated and that too over a period of time of time. Hashtags are often associated with such content, thereby enabling individual hashtags to be often used. It is easy to find out about these specific hashtags and use them for yourself, especially if the topic is an excellent match for your content.

Websites such as iDigic help you to Reach a wider audience on Instagram and bring in more interaction at the same time.

13) Interacting With Followers And Other Instagrammers

To boost the engagement rates of your content, you need to make yourself active. Keep in mind the golden rule that if you get any comment or feedback, make sure to thank and reply to the contributor.

It doesn’t need to be an extravagant or elaborate text. Just keep the response concise and simple and make sure to thank each of the users who have shared their opinion.

14) Prevent Certain Individuals From Checking Your Instagram Stories

Recently, Instagram added a particular feature called Instagram Stories. It allows users to share a short live clip which remains active for 24 hours. Now if you don’t want certain individuals to view these stories, you can filter them out.

instagram-stories

For hiding the stories that you post, you need to go to your account and choose the ‘Settings’ option present in the top right. Then go to the ‘Story Settings’ option and click on the ‘Hide Story From’ option and choose the particular users that shouldn’t view the stories.

15) Reducing Usage Of Mobile Data

If you don’t have enough or huge data allowance on your device’s contract, don’t fret. You can set Instagram to use less data. It is simple, but you need to keep in mind that it will take a longer time to load images and videos.

Winding Up

Instagram has been around for a while. Just because, you can use the best filters or know what filters bring out the best in your photos, it doesn’t mean you are well-versed in using Instagram. There are certain tricks and hacks that you must utilize to ensure that your Instagram account gets the required attention of your potential customers. By following the tips given above, you can gain a better understanding of how effective Instagram is as a marketing tool.

Instagram Stories VS SnapChat- Good Artists Copy; Great Artists Steal

For a very long time, many people have advocated using Snapchat for marketing especially if the intention was to reach millennials. While I agree that Snapchat is a useful tool, I must admit that I have not been using it to market myself or build my brand. Instead, I have stuck with the more traditional platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram simply because that’s where I can most readily find my target audience. Admittedly, I know ignoring Snapchat was not wise, especially when social media experts like Gary Vaynerchuk put their reputations behind it, but I was stuck in my ways until a recent development.

Lo and behold, one of my preferred platforms, Instagram, recently launched their own version of Snapchat with their stories feature and guess who has been using stories on a daily basis. Yes, this guy! Honestly, I love Instagram stories. I get to share moments in my day with my audience which builds a better connection and lays the foundation for my brand in the long run. However, with the unveiling of Instagram stories, I have observed that many people on social media have been complaining that Instagram is copying Snapchat, so I want to give my opinion on the matter.

First off, why care if Instagram is mimicking Snapchat with its stories feature? In my assessment, it’s simply a smart business move on the part of Instagram. With its growing user base and increased demand among young people, Snapchat has proven that it has the correct formula. Instagram itself is no slouch and currently has over 500 million monthly active users. Consequently, what better way to keep its users on its platform? You guessed right! Give them what they want. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for Instagram to rival Snapchat with similar, attractive features to keep them happy vs allowing them to switch to Snapchat to enjoy its benefits. Now I am not promoting Instagram; I just think it was a brilliant and strategic move by Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook entourage. People like me who didn’t want to manage a whole new profile and build a new following by switching to another platform, Snapchat, to start sharing their stories can now get everything done inside the “gram”.

Instagram stories is also pretty easy to use. Anything you share lasts for 24 hours, and you could delete it before if you wish. To share a story:

  • Click on your Instagram home tab
  • At the top of the page, you will see the stories of others and above that the button to ad new stories

Snap Chat and Instagram

  • Click this and it will take you to your camera where you can take a picture or hold down on the take picture button to make a video. At this point, you can edit your footage by adding text or a drawing of your choice
  • Click on the upload button

Instagram v snapchat

You can also upload videos and photos that you have in your phone’s gallery

  • To select from your gallery, place your finger on the screen then swipe down, and you will get access to your phone’s gallery
  • If you want to see how many people and who saw your story, click on it and with your fingers on the screen swipe up

For those who complained when Instagram introduced its stories feature, I have unfortunate news for you. I believe that Instagram stories is great, and it’s going nowhere. Also, for those of you that are saying that Instagram stories will kill Snapchat, consider reconsidering your position because to date, I have not come across any evidence that adequately substantiates your claim. Feel free to share your thoughts about Instagram’s recent addition with me in the comments section below.

5 Reasons Why Buying Facebook Likes Is a Waste of Time and Money for Your Business

I recently had a client who I was consulting and one of the things he was working on was setting up his Facebook page and generating traffic. He decided that in order to generate some likes for his new Facebook page, he would purchase a couple thousand likes for his page. I have never been a fan of buying likes or any kind of audience on social media for that matter, but I was interested to see what would happen.

After the order for likes was made, I decided to check out the page and look at the persons who liked, and when the likes were coming in steady. I started noticing something weird. The persons who were liking his page: 1- Were not the target market of his business, 2- These persons all had different profile pictures but the exact same post, 3- maximum number of post on the page was three. Basically the profiles were all fake and to me that was a complete waste of time. Why would anyone want likes from fake profiles? My client immediately stopped, but here are 5 reasons buying likes is a waste of time.

1. Poor or No engagement: If the majority of fans are fake, then when you publish your best content you will hardly be reaching anyone. When offers are published in your business, it will be a waste of time and there will be no true engagement and no one to reach.

2. It will mess up your EDGERANK: Your EDGERANK score is based on the amount of visits to your page, your comments, likes on contents and how much time it is shared. If you purchased fans and the people on your page are fake and not interacting with your brand then your EDGERANK score will be very low, and Facebook will see your page as unimportant.

3. You may lose future prospective real fans: If someone stumbles upon your page and realize that no one is talking about this or there is absolutely no interaction, they may perceive that what you’re doing is unimportant and just move away without becoming a fan.

4. It’s a waste of money: Normally in business whenever you purchase something, it should be something of value. In the case of buying fans, there is no value there, you are basically buying something or someone that doesn’t exist that will add absolutely no value to your brand.

5. Unable to generate leads and sales: True Facebook marketers use Facebook as a means of generating leads and then sales. So unless you are purchasing adds which can reach real people, then marketing to your “purchased” fan base and trying to get them off Facebook and unto your website, landing or sales pages will be futile since that may not be real.

There are alternatives to purchasing fake fans or fake likes; one can ask friends on their personal page to like their page and invite their friends to like it. They can put their Facebook page in their email signature, create valuable contents that will attract people and promote them, and place their fan page in the persona description on their personal page. One can also simply purchase adds which can generate likes, leads and sales. There is no shortcut to marketing in general, the same goes for Facebook marketing. Take your time and grow your fan base, there are amazing programs and people that can teach you how to do so such as Amy Porterfield and Brian Moran. Just stop wasting your company’s time and money.

Changing the Content Creation Game- My Review of Visme

I have always been an advocate of content creation. Personally, I firmly believe that every piece of content that any individual were to put out online should contain some sort of visual element. A couple months ago, I created a PDF and wrote an entire blog post about apps and websites entrepreneurs and content creators can use to create content. Since then, I have come across a number of other content creation tools. However, the one I have been most impressed with thus far is Visme found at visme.co. The online tool is easy to use allowing anyone to create amazing infographics and presentations which can be published online, embedded on your website, or even downloaded for offline use. Also, before you get sceptical about my endorsement, please note that I do not work for Visme nor am I an affiliate. However, because content creation and helping others are areas I am passionate about, I believe it would be remiss of me to not mention how impressive the application is.

Visme allows anyone from the experienced designer to total tech newbies to transform boring data into visually appealing content. In the past, people heavily relied on programmes such as powerpoint and other similar tools to create their presentations. However, I believe that Visme has improved the content creation process especially with it user-friendliness. Therefore, if you are looking to become a better presenter and communicator, Visme is the tool for you and a must have for your toolbox.

visme

Currently, bloggers are using Visme to create static graphics, interactive presentations, and infographics to support otherwise unappealing text content and increase engagement with their audiences. Educators and students are also using it to improve communication on various topics while small businesses and organizations use the application to better engage and market their products and services to potential customers.

Most importantly, most Visme features are free for all users, and it just takes just a few seconds to register then start creating your first project. Other features, such as downloading projects for offline use, password protection, access to premium widgets and templates however, are available for an affordable fee.

pricing

While many online content creating tools exist, I like Visme because:

  • No coding or design experience is required.
  • It allows users to download content in all popular formats: Web URL, Image, PDF, and HTML.
  • It allows users to add interactivity and animation to any object.
  • Music/audio can be attached to projects while personal audio can be recorded within Visme.

Unlike programmes like powerpoint or other similar tools, Visme has a ton of features within its application such as text widget, animated text, millions of searchable images, and thousands of high-quality vector icons in over 20 categories. The tool also has tons of graphic images for every type of project. Personally, I am a non-designer, and because of my designing ineptitude, I have always hated starting a project from scratch in an attempt to create a great looking piece of content at the end. With Visme however, I don’t have such a problem anymore simply because of the many new infographic and presentation templates the tool possesses. Another feature I am very impressed with is the ability and the ease to animate any object. You simply click on the object then select “animate this object” and choose an animation from the animation engine.

visme-text-widgetsvisme-templates

One important aspect of branding your business is the use of the correct font and Visme has over 100 professional fonts that can be applied to all text objects. One feature that amazed me about the use of the fonts is that I can use one font for one word and another for another word in a text block.

Additionally, the text editor is one of the best I have come across to date. Not only is it simple and very intuitive, but I can add vertical and horizontal text padding.visme-text-padding It is also possible to now highlight words or phrases within a text block and apply styling while keeping the rest of the content’s formatting intact. That innovation alone was enough for me to try Visme to help with my content creation projects because in other text editors including the previous Visme editor, such a feature is nonexistent. Furthermore, any number of objects can be selected then duplicated, and even multiple objects can be copied from one slide to the next. Such a function is best when you do not want to duplicate an entire slide but just certain parts.

Now get this, you can also upload your own MP3 into your slides or use any of the already huge library of audio tracks for your projects. Moreover, if you have images from one project that you want to use in another, you can obtain it where it is located. Visme also offers powerful data visualization capabilities through a series of Infograph and Chart Widget tools. Admittedly, this is another one of my favourite features and may be yours too. You can then take boring data then convert them into stunning visuals that are fun to look at especially if you are giving a presentation to others. These charts are also animated, so it’s easy to add swag to them.

visme-audio-tool

Again, I must reiterate that I do not work for Visme nor am I an affiliate, so I would not get any financial compensation for writing this. Personally however, I tried the tool because my aim is to create some sort of infographic or visual representation for each of my blog posts I create. Therefore, I used it to test its capabilities for a designing novice like myself, and I am very satisfied with the outcome. I have done my investigation, and I now encourage you to do yours. Check them out at visme.co, try it, and let me know what you think.

5 Cheap And Creative Ways to Market Your Small Business

One of the biggest challenges faced by small and medium-sized businesses today is marketing their business effectively.

Many believe that marketing and advertising is an expensive business practice; however there are creative ways that even the smallest business can take advantage of. Social Media and the Internet has leveled the playing field between small and large businesses to some extent. In the past, larger businesses had an advantage over smaller ones based on the size of their marketing budget. This is not the case today, and the following are some creative ways to market yourself like a big business:

Content Marketing– Content marketing involves sharing valuable information to your online community; information that will inform and educate without directly selling to them. At the end of the day, when people feel informed and smarter they will feel a connection to your brand which will lead them back to you when they’re in need. Some examples of content you can share include blog posts and articles, infographics, videos and other graphic designs. The best part about Content marketing is that for the most part it’s free, with tools such as Canva or Easely.

Social Media Ads– Whether it’s Facebook, Google AdWords, LinkedIn or Twitter, social media ads are one of the best ways to market your business. My favourite is Facebook. If you’re a small business owner and you’re not on Facebook, that is a big mistake. It is free to set up a Facebook page and free to post valuable content to build a relationship with clients. Facebook ads allow you to reach your ideal audience very cheaply. Businesses can spend as little as $1.00 a day to run ad campaigns to generate Leads and Customers. The targeting and retargeting options and also the ability to create custom audiences from your email list and website visitors is great for business marketing activities.

Email Marketing– One of your best assets in business is your email list, because you get to reach out to these people at any time, offer them value and also pitch them products and services. However, there is an art to doing this; sending random emails with random subject lines will not get your email opened. You may also have people unsubscribe from your list if you do this. Ryan Deiss wrote a book called ‘The Invisible Selling Machine’ where he shows how email marketing should be done. Small businesses need to get an email marketing service such as aweber or Mailchimp and start building their list immediately.

Give talks at networking events, workshops and meet-ups– One of the most creative ways to market your business is to share your expertise with others who are willing to listen. Networking events and meet-ups are great opportunities to share with others. You can also start your own meet-up in your industry. One-on-one workshops are also a great way to get in front of people and get the word out about your business.

Partnering with other brands and small businesses– This is very effective because when businesses partner with each other they are able to tap into each other’s resources. Two small businesses can agree to promote each other’s products or services. They can also team up to run joint promotional campaigns, which they may not have been able to do if they were doing it on their own.
