I know I am not the only one who goes to YouTube or another video platform and looks up motivational videos. Whether looking at Les Brown’s “you gotta be hungry” or something from Tony Robbins, even Eric Thomas- The Hip Hop Preacher. I get pumped when I listen to these motivational speakers. At the moment, I feel like I can achieve anything. But then, I go to sleep and wake and that Motivation wears off, and I get nothing done.

I remember hearing someone comparing Motivation to bathing, saying you need it every day to stay pumped. The problem with this is that Motivation is a state of mind, a feeling in a particular moment, and unless that feeling is matched by some action to back it up, nothing happens. No changes are made. I watched a video one week ago that says that Motivation is 1% or less of the success equation.

The real success factor that makes a difference is Discipline. Discipline is getting things done not because you feel like it but because you have to. Discipline is waking up and going to the gym even if you don’t feel like it. Discipline is staying home and studying for a final exam instead of going with your friends to the club. When you are disciplined, you will not need Motivation; you will not make excuses; you will do what needs to be done.

Success will not happen if you are not actively taking action to make it happen. Success may be different for many people. Success for one person may be losing 50 pounds. If you watch motivational videos about people who have lost 50 pounds and do nothing yourself, you will not have that success. Success for another person may be starting a business. If all you do is watch videos from GaryVee or other successful entrepreneurs about how they launched their business without doing anything yourself, you will not be successful.

Success is closely aligned with action, and only disciplined people will be willing to take action whether they feel like it or not. Successful people do not need Motivation; successful people need Discipline. For years I wanted to launch an online course. I have been teaching my social media masterclass in person for a while and always thought I should be digitizing it. I watched videos from other course creators about how they launched their courses. I had all the Motivation I needed, but I did nothing. It wasn’t until I decided that enough was enough and I was doing this no matter what, no matter how I felt I was doing it, that it happened. I got up and took action, and now I have my entire course online. Please do what you need to do even when you don’t feel like it. That’s Discipline.

I recently launched my complete social media masterclass. People can learn everything about social media, from content creation to running ads. You can find more about the social media masterclass here-  Social Media Masterclass
